Season 16 - In the Books!

That's a wrap! Sure seemed that the 13 runs went by in a flash. Enjoyed seeing all of you this year. Many new faces, new friends, as always. Will be sure to send out an email or two next Spring to remind everyone of the Summer Swing 2020 5K Series. Here are tonight's results, by the way. We had a pretty good turnout - I would imagine the pizza party helped! It's difficult to be in attendance for all runs in the series, but we had some folks that didn't miss a single run. Congratulations to Kim White, Kermit Davis, Scooter Wood, and Bill Lacy. Erol Sozen missed only one run, and for some reason we didn't see our friend Shane Newsome on tonight's last run. I suspect that work may have "interfered" for Shane. Tonight was the only run he missed. If I missed anyone else, please let me know. Sure enjoyed it - and am already looking forward to next year. Be careful while you are out there pounding the pavement or picking your way down a trail. Hope to see you soon. Doug

Not Bad

For a July evening, you can't get much better than we had tonight. A cool front came through and we had a good breeze, probably 10 to 15 degrees cooler than normal. Not bad! And the watermelon was pretty good too, we wiped out 3 of them. If you missed tonight, be sure to come next week for our pizza run. That's right, free pizza, don't miss out. That will also be the last run of this season, our 16th year. Hope to see you next Tuesday. Here are tonight's results. Doug

Watermelon Run Tonight!

Watermelon after the run tonight, rain or not. See you this evening! Doug

Nearly Cancelled

You might know - have sunny weather all afternoon, and show up for Summer Swing run #11 and a thunderstorm pops up 10 minutes before we run. Been there, done that? Fortunately this one blew over pretty quickly and runners were able to start about 6:35pm. And it was a bit cooler, so it turned out okay. We had 40+ runners tonight - not bad for July. Always glad to see new people every week, too. Makes it fun! Okay, switching gears here.....we have two runs left....just enough time to squeeze in our traditional watermelon and pizza runs. Watermelon next week, and pizza on the last run (July 30). Be sure to be here next Tuesday to help us knock out some watermelon. Almost forgot, here are the results for tonight's run. See you next week - Doug.

Run 10

Run 10 is in the books and there are 3 runs left in the series. Getting there! This summer is flying by; school is just around the corner. Hard to believe. We had a little relief from the heat - thankfully - but not from the humidity. Must have been close to 100 percent! As we wind down the series for 2019, I'll be working on plans for either our traditional watermelon run or our pizza run. Maybe both! More on that later. Here are the results for today's run. Hope to see all of you back next week! Doug

Wow

Wow, that had to be the hottest Summer Swing Run ever. It was pretty tough! Most of you wisely slowed down a bit. We have 4 more runs to go - with a finish date of July 30. Coming to a close for this series. It's been great! Hope to see you next week. Results of this week's run are here.

Run 8 - hot hot hot

Okay, run 8 is in the books and here are the results. We had a pretty good turnout - about 35 runners/walkers. Good to see everyone. Much thanks to April and Jonathan for help at the finish line. Next week is the week of the Fourth of July - and we will have our scheduled run on Tuesday the 2nd, weather permitting. If you are in town come on out and bring a friend. Maybe it will be a little cooler? Hope so but not likely. See you next week - Doug

Run Seven

Check out the results of tonight's run right here. Fortunately the thunderstorms had cleared East Alabama by 6pm and we were able to enjoy a somewhat cool, somewhat muggy run. Remember, as you read this, we generally won't cancel a run unless there is a problem with lightning. And running in a summer rain is great fun, if you have not tried it before. So, next time it is threatening rain, but not lightning, be sure to show up! This was run 7 of 13, so we are over the hump and headed for home. Hope to see you next week, rain or shine! Doug

Good Chance of Rain Today

June 18 - A good chance of rain today....and the run is still on UNLESS there is lightning in the immediate area at 6pm. Maybe it will go around us. Hope to see you this evening. Doug

Run 6 In The Books

Almost halfway through the series - and we have a number of runners who have made every run so far. Check results here to see how you've been doing. Summer has definitely arrived and it's no small task to run 3.1 miles before the sun goes down. You guys are incredible! Come back next week and join the rest of the crazies as we work toward those July runs. Hope to see you next Tuesday. Doug

Awesome

You guys are awesome! It was nuttin' but hot today and we still had about 30 of you knocking out some pretty good miles this evening. And still had a good time hanging around and visiting. Can't beat that. Much thanks to Randy Boone and his CarePoint Resources team. They taught us how to administer bystander CPR and also introduced us to the basics of using an AED. That's going to make a difference in someone's life one day. I'm convinced of it! Thank you Randy for your team's time and effort. Here are the results of today's run. Look forward to seeing you next week! Doug

Special Event Today

On June 4th Randy Boone and the CarePoint Resources team will set up a tent and show how to perform bystander CPR and the basics of using an AED during National CPR AED Awareness week. Don’t miss it! See you this evening. Doug

Run 4 Results

Run 4 is in the books; here are the results. We had a good turnout - about 40 who were tough enough to handle the heat. You guys amaze me! Come back next week and bring a friend. It's great seeing new faces, meeting new people. See you next Tuesday - Doug.

Week 3 Run

See the results from tonight's run here. Had a good turnout, in spite of it being unusually hot for May. Looks like this week is going to continue to be unseasonably warm. Stay hydrated and take it down a notch on those long runs! One item of housekeeping - seems like I accidentally linked last week's results to a document that could not be shared publicly. Sorry about that! Let me know if you have trouble seeing this week's results. Take care and see you next week. Doug

Perfect Evening for Run Two

If you missed our Summer Swing Run this week, you missed out on a near perfect May evening - cool and breezy, no rain, low humidity. Doesn't get much better than that in May! We had a pretty good turnout of 40 runners and walkers, dogs, strollers, families, and some pretty fast competition as well. Hope you can make it next week. We have 11 runs yet ahead of us. Check out the results of this week's run here. Come join us and bring a friend! Doug
